Early on the stage, five optimistic riders attacked on the first climbs of Stage 7 of Volta ao Porto. They managed to keep a gap between them and the peloton until they reached the final climb. At the bottom of the climb, the group of favourites passed them. Rider by rider, they couldn't keep up with the tempo set by Poker21, who were supporting Willis Stilwell. Right behind the riders of Poker21 was Chris Bauwens and Lionel Lefever lurking. Willis Stilwell looked strong, and seemed to have a good day, but when Lionel Lefever launched an attack, only Chris Bauwens could follow. Chris Bauwens made a counter-attack and was suddenly alone in the front, as Willis Stilwell caught up Lionel Lefever once again. Chris Bauwens secured his victory without problems, while Willis Stilwell was faster in the sprint than Lionel Lefever.
I'm still in shock. When the attack started earlier today, I didn't expect to end up as winner, said the happy Team Crazy Downhillers rider, Chris Bauwens. Only at the very end, I realized that this could be my chance, and so it was.
Rene Rasmussen, manager of Team Crazy Downhillers, was happy with the result: The whole team did well today. Everything turned out as we hoped, and luckily, Chris Bauwens was the strongest rider out there today. The proud manager didn't hide that he was satisfied with Chris Bauwens's result. Chris Bauwens did well. No one deserved the victory more than him. He put his focus on this stage long ago, and he kept his motivation high. I'm happy for him and the team, said Rene Rasmussen.
Now only the last time trial will be in our road to glory! This will be the biggest achievement so far in the teams history, since the competition this year has been so fearsome.
Ps, sorry Finz for the copy/paste... :p
